You should consult a doctor & ask him for PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) for many people it's a long term solution but if they don't work & you're diagnosed with GERD the final way to completely cure them is by a form of surgery called Nissen Fundoplication. If you don't treat it, you'll get esophageal cancer.

No. Heartburn is too much acid in the stomach. It can get to you at any age. A small hernia in the upper portion of the digestive tract can cause it.
