My thumb has been hurting for almost six months now. I can barely move it and I cant snap. I haven't broke it or anything. The bone just started hurting for no reason. What do you think that could be?

I actually have a similar problem right now. After a fall at work that really messed up my knees, and then a second fall about a week later when my left knee buckled.

I also fell on my hands as I hit the floor. I iced all of the hurt spots, finally got to see my Dr. (waiting or HR dept to respond). I focused more on my knees at first because no walkie...no workie!

But the dang thumb and "butt" of my right hand is STILL very painful and swollen after3++ MONTHS.

I'm going in for X-rays (hopefully) TODAY to see if there is a hairline fracture, or perhaps bone rubbing against bone and pressing on a nerve as well.

Have you taken any spills lately? Or maybe doing a repetitive motion with your thumb? Have you tried icing it...seen a Doctor at all? I'd suggest that after 6 months of pain, and the fact that it is evidently getting worse...you'd be best off seeing SOMEONE medically to insure there isn't something really scary brewing in the joint that you can't "see" happening.

Ok I see you are in the same fix I am in. MY case is Worker's Comp, so I am covered, otherwise I wouldn't be.

GO TO THE DOCTOR ANYWAY...ASK TO MAKE PAYMENTS...OR GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM...AND MAKE PAYMENTS ON THE BILL WHEN IT COMES. Tell the Dr (private practice) what amount you can afford to pay and make your payments ON TIME.

Not to scare you, but in addition to the possible things mentioned here...there is BONE CANCER also. You cannot deny yourself medical care, based upon hardship...call and go in this week...if you can think of nothing that may have caused this pain...do not muck about with it any longer.

If you are an older person, it could be arthritis.

Arthritis is also possible in younger people. if it continues, see a doctor.

I think that it could be a reason to see your physician ASAP. It could be nerve damage, soft tissue damage, infection, or a bone bruise.

Even though you did post this a while ago, if a problem like this lingers for upwards of 6 months it is something worth getting checked out by a medical professional. I personally recommend a Physical Therapist certified in hand therapy, but an orthopedic specialist is always good too.

I think you left it way to long
6 months it has been hurting yet, You have been no were to check it out
I would have been doctors if it was hurting for 3 weeks let alone 6 months
