  • no you do not need to wait for your w2. all the information about your earned income and taxes that were taken out shoukd be on your last paystub. you can go get your taxes done, but check your paystub first and make sure everything is ok. GOOD LUCK
  • Yes, you do need your W2 in order to file your taxes. There is information on the W2 that you need that is not on the pay stub. Specifically, you will need your Employer Identification Number. This is not included on the pay stub. (At least, it is not on my pay stubs.) I believe that federal law requires your employer to have given your your W2 by now. (I think that they are supposed to have gotten it to you by the end of January.) If you have not received it yet, you should check with your employer to find out how to get it.
  • if you do not have your w2 but have your information from last year can you use that? I still work for the same company.
  • He is correct, you CANNOT file your taxes without a W2. There is a form called a "4852", that the IRS will let you prepare your return with, but you have to wait until a certain date, and you had to have tried a number of methods to obtain your W2 form. You CAN use your LAST paystub to complete this form and send it along with your tax return.
