They're both posers. But to push the matter just a notch further, I think it's worth asking "why do people do any of this?" -- that is, why do people pretend to be something they're not? My answer is that this happens because people don't like who they think they are, and are compensating, or they don't know who they are and that produces anxiety which makes them want to "be somebody" -- even if it's phony. Both of these conditions are quite painful for the subject, so it's OK to have some compassion for someone who is doing this. On a rare day, if you're kind to them and manage to connect, and all the stars line up the right way, sometimes there's an opportunity to point this out in a way that makes a difference. You could contribute to setting someone free.
