What is the "lost city of atlantis?" why is it such a big deal?

    It was supposedly a city of advanced technology and luxuries. It was described by Plato long after it had allegedly disappeared. However the location of Atlantis is still a mystery as although some sites may seem to fit certain parts of the story, they don't fit all of them.

    Plato said that it was in front of the pillars of hercules, meaning that it was in the mediterranean or just outside in the atlantic ocean. Sea Levels rose about about 10000BC so it seems that there could be some truth to the story, but everything refers to Plato's explanation as its the original version.

    Many people have claimed to have found atlantis, but I personally imagine that Plato had overstated its importance. I suspect that it has some truth to the story, but has been embellished beyond recognition due to the lack of evidence.

    Its a mystery with a bit of detail, some plausable parts and many additions from modern times. God knows us humans love a mystery that has some shred's of evidence but we can adapt for our own means.
