As stated above, it is a division of GM but GM is a world wide company and presently the new Saturn Aura as well as the upcoming Astra are sold in Europe, they were designed by the European division. The AStra is built both in Belgium and soon to be factory in Poland (for the sedan). The Aura, which has a different name in Europe, is built in the USA. The 1st 2 years of the Astra will be imported from Europe.

These days the ability to actually tell where a car is built by the marquee is very tricky. For instance, that new Civic can be built in California, Canada, or if it's the hybrid, in Japan.

The days of so-and-so car being an American car versus another being "Japanese" are gone. If you really want to blow your mind, you'll have to do some homework and you will notice that different factories within the same brand can build different levels of quality based on the work force, where the parts are sourced from. At the present time, the most rock solid combination tends to be a Japanese brand built in Japan with 90-100% Japanese parts.

Hyundai's built in Korea are slightly more trouble free than the ones being built in the brand new state of the art facility in the south (USA).

Saturn is a division of General Motors in the United States. They were originally started as a cheaper car line and had some reliability issues, but in the last 2 years, GM has tried to make Saturn one of it's higher models of cars and has greatly increased the quality of the cars. The Saturn Aura just won Car of the Year at the Detroit Auto Show and the Saturn Sky is a popular small sporty car competing with the Crossfire and is on the same program platform as the Pontiac Solstice.

Saturn is a division of GM which was set up to try and emulate those European and Japanese manufacturers who had set up in the US by using non-union factories in southern states. they wanted to break away from 80 years of tradition and restrictive practices which had built up en Detroit and similar traditional manufacturing areas

If you ever want to know where a specific car is from than use this link.

    http://motors.compare.shop.ebay.com/compare

Put the car details in and then look under the specifications tab and it will tell you the country of origin and the country of assembly.

My 92 Saturn SC originated and was built in the United States.
