To give the ears shape; if you think about it your outer body really serves no other purpose but to keep everything inside; therefore making it pretty important because you don't want your internal important organs laying all over the place.
Without earlobes there would be a blank space between 'earl' and 'early' in the dictionary
other than having something to tug on while you are thinking, they are a handy place to hang your earrings

They kind of define how a person looks. Most people have floppy lobes, but about 10% of people have lobes that are connected to the head, so t looks like there's nothing there. I don't know why some people have different ear lobes, because they don't seem to serve any other purpose.
Natural selection-wise, i dont think they were deliberately intended to promote our survival, just some extra fat/skin or something that happened to be there. although who knows, maybe they do help us, or some other kind of animal somehow
