Lexmark printer after trying all re install etc 'cannot retrieve application list'

This happens to me and my Acer laptop all the time when I'm attempting to scan via my lexmark. This is what I do:

-unplug printer cable from the computer.
-shut off printer
-reboot computer
-plug in printer cable
-turn on printer

Always clears up my issues, hope that helps with yours.
