They're mostly the anti-hypocrisy of the Christian religion/cult mentality. Some few actually do worship Satan.

Most Satanists do not even believe in Satan. The few who actually profess to worship Satan are typically attention whores trying to offend.

"Satan" is totally a christian concept. Someone couldn't worship him and be 'anti-christian' because they are worshipping part of that dogma.

It would make little sense for us to claim to embody the archetypal qualities of Satan (rebellion, rational self-interest, carnality, etc.) on one hand, and then attempt to worship an anthropomorphic Satan on the other. In other words, it is hardly rebellious to worship a figure that represents rebellion. The Satanist finds unproductive and one-sided idol worship to be draining and useless (not to mention hypocritical).

From what I understand, Satanism is the worship of materialism. Luciferianism is the worship of Satan.
