  • I have pondered this for a long time, Once if your were 'chubby' it symbolized wealth, not it symbolizes poverty and uglyness i think it is because times have changed and our perseption of beauty have 'evolved' if you want to use that wording plus we have found that obesity is now linked to many different ailments and diseases, and now health is something that is sought after
  • I'm getting married to one such woman and I could not be happier, more attracted to her, more in love or more pissed off at the image that Calvin Klein, or Redbook, or MTV try to make these poor girls think is what a real man wants. We are now a society mostly made up of pre-programed idiotic boys who think girls are fun because they have boobs. And you girls let them get away with it. Stand up for your dignity it's quite obvious that society sure isn't going to lend you a hand with that one. I believe if you ever as a woman have to maim, hurt or alter your physical body to look sexy or attractive to ANY man they should stop doing it. No man that can't look at a woman and see her natural beauty deserves to have he try and look good for him. And no self respecting man would make his woman do that to herself. Rant over.
  • You are talking about two complete different periods in history. Then the kinds of food that made you fat were more expensive, so if you were over weight then ti meant you could afford those foods and didn't have to work hard for it thus wearing it off, so your weight symbolised your wealth. Also the doctors knowledge of the issues surrounding being over weight were not known. Today, the fattening junk food is actually cheaper so therefore being over weight can be due to the low cost of a poor diet. Also our doctors are much more aware of the issues involved with weight gain. Just my take on things.
  • Rubenesque women were seen as the most beautiful women of their day. They didn't have millions of magazines, commercials, tv series and movies brainwashing them into believing otherwise. Now, we have all these extremely unhealthy, too thin, even heroin-addicted models and actresses flashed across the television, magazines, movies and everywhere you look brainwashing these young women into believing that it's only cool to starve yourself half to death. There seems to be no happy medium. The Rubenesque women were probably the most healthy either, but the anorexic women of today aren't much better off. The media needs to start marketing healthy-sized women; not a size 0! Funny thing about it is that I've met more men that would prefer a women with curves than the unhealthy women with few.
