Help answer this question below.
You should give it some time for the microwaves to disperse and fade away in their signal strength. Second, give it some time for the heat to spread a bit more even and also, not to get your tongue burnt!!
Well if it's a hot pocket LOL, it's about 300 degrees in the middle and needs to cool off first before you eat it. Plus if it's a sauce, it may need to sit and thicken up.
It continues to cook for a minute or so after it comes out of the microwave.
It gives you time to reconsider if you are sure you want to eat that nasty-ass Hot Pocket.
I think food has a tendency to "pop". "explode" when put into a different tempeture quickly. By letting it sit, uncovered, this allows the release of the heat build up to disipate.
Because you can fry your hand if you open the package too soon.
So that someone doesn't sue them for getting burnt by steam...
Because it is too hot to serve
First of all, even when you cook things in the oven, they aren't done when you take them out... "Carry-over heat" will finish them outside the oven. Microwaves are pretty much the same, but tend to be a bit more "spotty" in the heating, meaning some parts will remain cool or cold. As they sit, the heat moves into the cooler areas, evening out the "hot spots".
Second of all, the majority of the time, those "hot spots" are damn near "molten lava" (well, for your mouth) temperature. Again, they cool down, as the heat moves into parts that didn't heat. It helps a bit to stir it. Even then, it could be a few moments before you CAN eat it without blistering your lips, tongue, and inside of your mouth.
Microwaves cook by boiling the water within food. This is why it's not good for cooking meat, as it will only dry it out, without specialized dishes/cookers, that contain a bit of metal in them to heat up. (Pizzas, Hot Pockets, etc.) Those trays are HOT, in case you never noticed. THAT'S what "crispies" the pizza crust, and outside of hot-pockets, while the microwaves also boil the liquids in the cheese, meat, etc.. So, OF COURSE the food will be HOT... Boiling water SCALDS... Inside your mouth is tender skin. What do YOU think will happen? (Most people have common sense.)
Why they they say wait? Because people have pulled their food directly from the microwave (or oven), and tried to eat it, severely burning their mouths, and probably suing some company because they didn't warn you. Remember... EVERY warning on products most-likely have someone without common sense getting hurt behind them and suing the company.
Remember the McDonalds coffee lady? Burnt her ... VaJayJay (Oprah slang) ... because she put the coffee between her legs, and it spilled? THAT'S why McD's has to put "HOT" and/or "Caution: Contents will be HOT" on their coffee cups.
Blame those without common sense. ;-)
Most peoples taste buds don't work real well when they're burnt to a crisp. maybe the package ought to say that too.
Cause that stuff get's HOT too, I've almost dropped things from there without waiting. That would not have been pretty :D
