In Tennessee, its drywall.
I call it both, but I like sheet rock better. Just like the word sheet better than wall for some subconscious reason.

Sheet rock. "Hanging dry wall" doesn't sound right. Granted I haven't worked construction for many years now.

Avoid chinese drywall at all costs. It corrodes your air conditioning coils and gives you delusions of grandeur.
Gypsum wallboard
you can call it anything you like but it's true name is gypsm wall board also called GWB IN THE NORTHEAST WE CALL IT BOTH
I usually call it drywall
Call it both if you want.... Its like Kleenex and tissue or Q-tips and cotton swabs. SheetRock is a brand name also used as a generic term for the building product gypsum board or drywall. The term drywall referring to the new product/method of no longer having to wet plaster walls to wooden lathe assemblies (although we still "mud" the joints with plaster). It was probably quite revolutionary at its introduction (late 40's-early 50's as far as I've observed while remodeling homes over the years)as plastering walls by hand must have really sucked and required very skilled tradesmen to do. Enter in the age of poor quality construction about 40yrs later ~Ore Le! Oh, and in the South, its been sheetrock or even just "rock" amongst your good'ol boy hangers & finishers, but that is an almost all but extinct breed now - sounds like our boy from Tennessee could be a yankee.
