Did you try a blank password? It wouldn't reset the admin pass to anything but what you typed in I would imagine.

So two things to try: your password and a blank password for the admin pass.

If that doesn't work, follow the instructions here and you will probably be able to figure it out quite quickly.

follow the last part of these instruction, the safemode part and just reset them>
    LOST PASSWORD
    XP

When you install XP there actually is a TRUE Administrator ID that is created. This
account has the name "Administrator: as opposed to your user account.

If at a command prompt you type the command
    net users
this will list ALL the accounts on that ,machine. You will probably see here the Administrator account.

If you don't know the password for this account you should be able to change it by typing the command
    net user administrator new_password
where new_password is the new password for the account.

At the XP login screen, try logging on now with the user id administrator and the password that you just created.

If this fails then as PC starts enter safe mode F8
    Then go to control panel
    User’s accounts
Choose “Administrator” once in then choose the account you wish to change the password on
    Then choose change password
Set new password, close all windows and reboot
Enter new password and you should be in

You can remove it with windows 7 password tools. For removing Windows login Passwords safely, I strongly recommend Windows Password Reset 9.0. Few days ago, I downloaded it at http://www.reset-windows-password.com/reset-windows-7-password.html I burned it to a Usb memory card. Booting up and clearing my password within just 5 minutes.

There are many Windows password reset tools, but I haven't personally tested them. Windows Password Rescuer 3.0 is a widely spread edition on internet...
It supports running with CD/DVD/USB, remove the lost or forgotten password and then log in to your computer without any password. As long as you have another PC to install it and burn it to CD/DVD or USB Drive.More detailed instruction you can visit :

Take it easy, there is password recovery software called Windows Password Reset 9.0. First try to arrange Windows Password Reset 9.0 or you can download this from internet and then Burn it onto the CD or USB flash drive: It's going to be piece of cake to burn the Windows Password Reset 9.0 ISO image file, if you are familiar with burning ISO image file onto CD, DVD, for there's nothing different. And you could use any burner software that you are used to, such as Nero, Sonic etc. But for those who are new to ISO image burning, I recommend BurnCDCC, which is free and easiest-to-use burner software that we have come across ever. And then Boot the locked computer from CD/DVD or USB port and remove Windows password

It’s very easy and useful to reset local administrator and user passwords on any Windows system. Get started with the download – 3 simple steps: Step 1 – Download Windows Password Seeker - http://www.passwordseeker.com Step 2 -Burn your Windows Password Seeker CD: To burn your CD, you’ll need a blank CD-R and the .ISO file of Windows Password Seeker. Step 3 – Put in your newly created CD and remove your Windows password. Hope it helps.
