Ok, no big words please like 'euphemism', (whatever that means)! I remember my mum telling us kids years later, after they first arrived in Australia. My parents met some people somewhere, had a nice talk, then as they departed, the people said, ok, 'see you later'. My parents did whatever but when they came home, they readied themselves for those people to come vist them. These people never turned up and my parents, were a bit cheesed off, until later, when they found out that Aussies, used the term, 'see you later', meaning it could mean even years down the track or even not at all! Brings me to another memory, my mum worked in an office to a brick making company. When bricks had to be delivered to an outer suburb and the driver didn't know the place of delivery. The supervisor would then say to the driver, do you know such and such a pub, the driver would always know where the pubs were, then the superviser would say, well when ya get to the pub, turn left and three streets to your right, is where ya going. Sure enough, the bricks were delivered to the right place, as all truckies knew all the pubs. Then also in the early days when they arrived, they were invited to a tupper ware party (or similar) and told to bring a plate! So my parents thought that must have been an Aussie thing. So we arrived at this event with 5 clean plates, not realising, that in Australia, it meant to bring a plate of cake, or sandwitches etc! Funny looking back!
