  • You register it right then and there.
  • All rules apply. You register and have a back ground check done as part of the sale. Just like in the big gun store.
  • I see, I was told that there are people at gun shows selling privately as well as market sales, is this true?
  • Gun shows sales private party is commonly referred to as the “Gun Show Loophole”. Some state it still a private party sale so no paper work is needed(some areas paper work must be done on all sales and transfers). You have to check your local state laws.
  • Depends on the locality. It will have to be transfered on a ATF forn 4473. Some areas you need a permit before you can buy. Some areas there is a waiting period. But it's not like a flea market, no cash and carry.
  • Impossible to give an accurate answer here, since each state has different laws concerning handguns. Best bet is to call your local District Attorneys Office and ask this question.
  • all guns sales, long gun or handgun, from a licensed FFL must be done with a federal form 4473 and background check on site. while not technically registration it is recorded. The 4473 must be held on file by the FFL forever or until they lose their license. some states require registration in addition to the 4473 and those forms will be filled out at that time. Private sales are not required to be recorded by federal form 4473 for longguns or handguns.
