Help answer this question below.

Does editing and enhancing jpegs images in picasa2 cause loss of quality to the jpeg file? or is only the exported image effected by loss of quality?

    ANY time you manipulate a jpg format picture you will loose quality. Thankfully Picasa keeps the original intact in a seperate folder for you.

    Even opening a jpg and and saving it again will cause quality loss.

    Any program you use to manipulate a jpeg will cause it to lose quality. If you decide to manipulate one, work from a copy and keep the original intact. That way if you make a mistake you still have the original to work from. If you're making a lot of changes rule of thumb is save often.(each save with a different filename) This way you can go back to an acceptable image and not have to start all over from scratch.

    A JPEG image is a compressed image, therefore it starts off with quality loss. Some image processors can retain the quality it does have better than others.
