You're about an hour from Lake Tahoe. I highly reccomend going there. You're about an hour from Wine Country, which is where I'm from originally. I don't care for it but you might find it equally as beautiful and interesting. You're about an hour and a half or two hours from San Francisco. Also on your way to Tahoe there's a lot of little old gold mining towns such as Placerville (Ol' Hangtown) and Coloma, which is where gold was discovered. As you get into Tahoe you're only about 45 to an hour from Reno, and also Virginia City which was a boomtown at one time. If you REALLY want to be adventurous, find out where the town of Bodie is. It's a little south east of Lake Tahoe and a bit of a drive, and I don't know what the weather's going to be like but it's an old ghost town. It had boomed once and they left and boomed again and they came back, but when the boom died everybody left the town and it's completely preserved on how it was left. It's pretty creepy. There's all sorts of artifacts around and it's tempting to take them but the park gets all sorts of stuff mailed back to them that was taken from the grounds because apparently there's a curse! Also when you're in SF check out Alcatraz, if you're interested. Sacramento is in the middle of the state and lots of cool places in NorCal are within a few hours drive. Even the Pacific Ocean. It just depends on how much driving you want to do, and what you want to see. Have fun.

Check out Old Town, Sacramento. That is a LOT of fun... old shops, strange shops, antique shops, and exhibits. I do not usually like to window shop but I did at Old Town.

You shall have to find a parking garage and walk in, most likely. It is very worth it. Just the steam train exhibit is great.

You can get a REAL Sarsaparilla there as well.

If you can do the drive, head up to Columbia. It is, I think, a 3-4 hour drive out of Sacto. It is a for real, preserved, old west town.

You asked the right person, I live in the area, and I can help you.

If you like to hike or bicycle, the trails along the American River are a must see. We also have some very fine Art Galleries downtown and they are well worth the time.

You don't want to miss a tour of the Capitol Building, and the old Governors mansion, along with Old Town and the Museums there. The world famous Crocker Art Museum is just across the street. the California State Indian Museum and Sutter Fort Museum and nearby.

The Sacramento Zoo is a little bitty, somewhat disappointing place, but if you like seeing animals you might want to visit there. There's a children's play ground (fee only) near the zoo called "Fairytale Town" Folsom zoo, about 25 or 30 miles from there is also a small, animal preserve that you might enjoy.

You could visit the Towe Auto Museum, or the Airplane Museum, if that sort of thing interests you. I like to visit the Old Riverboat restaurant/play house and hotel on the Sacramento River in old town. Hubby's company had a Christmas Weekend there one year and we got to stay in one of the rooms.

Most tourist-type entertainment can be visited in two or three days. Then Sacramento becomes a good base for travel to Lake Tahoe, several Indian Casinos, and maybe even a day trip, or overnight to San Francisco.

Depends on what you like? When are you coming? In the early spring there is a lot to see. If you like fishing there is the delta. There is good food here. Like a hamburger - try the Squeeze Inn - best hamburger around. There are shopping malls, there are bike paths, if you like to fly RC airplanes - there is Maidu Park in Roseville. Let me know what you like to do and I will try to tell you what there is to do that you like!
