for a human to preach for 40 years absolutely is a long time. take my word for it i myself have been preaching since 1962 the kingdom good news. at the time i was just nine years old. others have been preaching even longer. for the most part no one has listened either. for this, i and those that have been doing this same work relate very well to the job that noah had. like noah, whether people listen or not is not our main concern. it would be great if most listened, or at least some. truth is most will not listen, very few have responded. the main reason we are doing this work that very soon will end is because we have a commission. we have been ordered divinely by the Creator and God of the universe, Jehovah. until he tells us that this work is finished we will continue!!! whether people like it or not, respond, or not, we will continue. i will not ever apologize to you for knocking at your door and disrupting you from whatever you were doing. we are sounding out the warning of the end of this system of things as we know it. if you respond fine, welcome, join us. if you don't respond you will never say "i didn't know". as you can see from the way most answer to your question don't even believe there was a flood that covered earth. they claim they have scientific facts to back their beliefs. these choose to believe the the so-called facts that discredit what the bible says. again it is your choice to believe what you want. you have been told and warned of what the future holds for this world. and if you say i don't know because i don't answer the door, when its' knocked on, that is still not an excuse. when the end of this system of things comes only those that chose to listen to this message and acted on it will survive. even though you may think this sounds harsh, the truth often is very uncomfortable to listen to. so again in answer to your question "Yes" noah preached a long time, even then only eight survived. if you survive the coming world-wide destruction it will be your choice.

Durring those 40 years, did Noah go to China? Japan? Hawaii? The Americas? Did he walk all across the whole globe? What did he do to prove to all these diverse people that he was not some nomadic nutjob?

No amount of time is enough to justify global genocide as the act of a loving God.

2 Peter 3 talks about the Flood and likens it to our day. Peter says 2 important things that bear on this question. One is that Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise but is patient because he desires none to be destroyed. A few verses earlier he stated that this fact escapes the notice of many "according to their wish" and that ridiculers would appear in our day. Jehovah's people have been witnessing about the coming judgment for many decades and, happily, some are listening and responding.
In Noah's day, no doubt people's lives changed and children were born during his ministry. Jehovah wasn't going to bring destruction until everyone had a thorough witness and had proven that they would reject the available salvation.
Clearly, Noah was concerned not only with his own salvation, but also with that of his neighbors. I sometimes wonder if building the ark was the easier part of his assignment.

I agree with Sleepro, that the time was of God's determination and so was the right length. Yes, 4o years is a long time to see no results, and you can only admire a man of conviction who stayed true to the revelation he had received to make something so big (same dimensions as the Titanic, but floated better) for something he was told would come, that no one had ever seen before- a Flood.

Yet stick it out he did- and he was proven right. He is an inspiration to all of us who love the Lord, that even though it seems no one is listening, we have to keep doing what God has told us to do, knowing that there will be some saved by God's mercy.

God loves to put people through trials of faith, so I imagine the time frame was a test. Also, the reason that he had to preach for so long and yet yeild no results...God was trying to purge the earth of evil beings, and all of these people were not believers of God and all that. However, Noah needed all this time to cover the earth to make sure that there really was no one good left.

No, only because it was all on God's time and therefore it can not be to long.

Of course, this is my own personal opinion.

    Good question, God Bless, <:))))<><

Your question was much like "If 2+2=5, how much is 4+4." Well 2+2 doesn't equal 5. So there is no answer to the question. You are asking something based on unsubstantiated myth.

As to the Bible any psychoanalyst or psychologist would deem the Bible god as a bi-polar, schizophrenic, narcissist under DSM-IV-A guide lines.

Your mistake in asking your question. If you wanted an answer based entirely on Bible myth, you should have included, "According to the Bible........" But without that I assumed you were looking for factual information.

No, not really. One man wandering about telling us all that some god is going to do something incredibly unlikely? Someone could do that their whole life long and not be believed - fair enough too. People have been telling us jesus' second coming is "imminent" for 2000-odd years, and there's still no reason for most of us to believe it'll ever happen...
Personally the point seems kinda moot in this instance, since every single ounce of evidence collected over the past 300 years or more indicates there was never a global flood on this planet.

Well it has been proven there was a regional flood of the Black Sea. But as for a global flood you would need 4 times the water as in, on, under and above the earth. So where did all the water come from and where did it all go? Easy! Didn't happen. Absolutely no evidence of a global flood. Not only that but Noah would have required at least bronze tools to build the ship. A good 2000 years too soon. And the ark was said to be between 550 and 850 feet in length. Wasn't till the 4th Century BCE the Greeks managed 350 foot ships. One man and a couple sons building. Couldn't have lifted the beams. Again it would be 4000 years till lifting machines were invented. Pure fable. I doubt Noah could have done better than build a small 20 to 30 foor fishing vessel.
