It's a blast! You should try it.

Thought it might be, even thought about taking classes a few years ago. Got sidetracked from that one for sure.
You are a Clogger?
by Stick it!! on April 6th, 2009
Not really, but I did take classes to teach children how to clog. It is so easy. They just loved it. They demonstrated their dances, along with other folk dances to their parents. I used to teach music in school.

That is sooo awesome, good to know folk dances are still being taught to the youth. looks like great exercise as well. I saw Cloggers at a Western festival in California and wanted to immediately sign up, had too much going on at the time however.
So you taught music, what instrument do you play?
by Stick it!! on April 6th, 2009
I play piano, guitar and recorder. I wish we had clogging around here, but this area goes more for country and western dancing, as far as folk dancing. It was easy for me to learn clogging because it is like dancing the "Cotton-Eyed Joe". I don't know if you know that western dance. You can dance it with a line of people. It may be on youtube.

I love to line dance, did a lot when I lived in the south. Kinda rusty now though. What kind of music do you play on the piano and guitar?
by Stick it!! on April 7th, 2009
I'm a classical pianist. I play Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Scarlatti, Shostokovich, Mozart, Liszt, etc. \ I play classical guitar. I'm not as advanced on guitar as in piano, but I can play the short pieces in my book for guitar performance. One song I really like is "Spanish Study" and "Malaguena". Malaguena is a simplified version for guitar, but I can play the original, more difficult one on the piano. What I try to do is play the music on the piano and transfer my learning to the guitar. I find guitar much more difficult. Yeah, line dancing is fun!

Dang you are good, love Malaguena a lot, I guess you have been playing all your life. Piano is so beautiful, I gave almost all my music to my daughter, wish I hadn't now. Dang I really admire your classical guitar ability, the music is thrilling, passionate and inspiring. I tried the guitar but holding down the strings just took to much strength.
Played Violin for a while, in fact I'd like to learn how to fiddle, you know country style. It looks like sooooo much fun, kinda free and easy. Know I could learn it fairly easy, just need the violin and I'm too picky about instruments to buy a cheap one and cant afford a good one, perhaps one day.

You should give your daughter lessons of some kind while she is still young. I learned how to play by ear because my sister was taking lessons but didn't like to practice, so I had a piano. I'd listen to the radio and pick out songs. That's how I learned. My dad played the guitar all the time and mother played the radio. We watched tv sometimes. Anyway I hope you get back to your violin. I've always wanted to try the violin and admire people who can play it.
by Marguerite on April 7th, 2009
Yes I will give her lessons very soon.
