What is a parent trying to teach thier young child about the story little red riding hood?

    I think in general terms it's to be on guard for deviance in others. There's also the lesson there about not judging appearances.

    I'm not sure I agree with the lesson about not talking to strangers, because the wolf would have followed her had she never spoken with him, and in some stories a man comes and saves the grandmother by cutting her out of the wolf's belly, and he's a stranger, too, but he is good to have around.

    But, really, I think Little Red Riding Hood is like a lot of really old folk tales that have been and can be told in all sorts of ways, and I suspect there isn't necessarily a moral lesson in each, or that the moral lesson can change depending on who's telling the tale.

    Yes..never talk to strangers is one message....but also, you cannot always tell what a peson is like by how they look.
