I believe "scriptures" are only to be found in the Christian Bible, therefore it is impossible to provide scriptural support for any but the Christian interpretation of God.

The only time anyone should worship anything is if and when they feel a strong need to do so.

Boy, this is a question and a half.
From Christian Perspective, I would like to start from Psalm 31:5 where the psalmist (King David) cry’s out to God recognizing that God is a Spirit, and that he (David) himself has one that needs attention. Notice that he mentions the currency of the relationship (truth) and the transaction request (redemption)
    "Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth."

From here on you will need a Bible, I recommend you read the entire gospel of John. Although there are four Gospels, the Gospel of John is the one that I find the easiest to apply to practical spiritual nurturing.
First things first, in the Gospel of John, 3:5 we hear Jesus stating the first event necessary to enter the Kingdom of God is a spiritual birth. This is very relevant to your question, because if you want to worship God, it helps to get into the spiritual domain where he dwells – called the Kingdom of God so you can come and worship Him. Here is the quote of this passage from the Bible:
John 3:5 “Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”
More scripture on this event is mentioned in Gospel of Mark, 16:16, Acts 2:38, Titus 3:5

In John 4:23 we see the possibility of being or becoming an un-true worshiper. Notice the currency mentioned again, the “spirit and the truth.” And for the first time a mention, that God (Father?) is seeking the true worshipers. He is seeking a true worshiper, wow…
Here is the quote of this passage from the Bible:
John 4:23 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks”

In the very next passage, John 4:24 we have:
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
Hmmm… didn’t we hear this in Psalms 31:5?

The rest of the scripture is nice reading, until you come to John 14:17. Here is the scripture:

John 14:17 “the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

This is the time you pack up and get a lighter book to read, like Moby Dick or Dante’s Inferno or something like that.
If by this time, you do not know what the scripture is talking about, you do not go any further. If all this reading feels like nonsense, your have not yet been “born again” and can not pass this scripture, but go back and spend time with God until that “born again or spiritual birth” event happens.
In John 14:17, the scripture warns us that the world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows Him. This is the state that we all are in, or have been at one point in our lives.
Nobody is “born again” from the womb. We are born that way in flesh, but not in the Spirit.
New spiritual birth is a requirement (not an option) in order to grasp God. To shed more light on this, reading Gospel of John Chapter 3:1-7 would be helpful.
You still here? Good, because in John 15:26, here is a promise and hope for you and me.
John 15: 26"When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.”

The “Counselor” this scripture speaks about is the Holy Spirit. When He comes, the counselor that is, He will “testify”…
The Spirit of truth will testify!!!
When that happens, you will not need guys like me to debate which God to worship. You will know it…

I am sure you will notice that English is my second language, and I apologize for sentence structure and grammar errors. But know this – I do know God, and my heart echoed your heart cry – “Which God to worship.” He heard my cry, and knew my heart desires and He did show up one day.

I pray the same for you.

Not all religions have scriptures, and I am baffled by why you assume that they do. I can tell you right now that I don't care what the Bible, Koran, Talmud, or other Abrahamic text has to say about who I should worship. I have far more respect for the Bhagavad Gita, Book of the Dead, etc. However, I'm more likely to listen to what the wind and waves have to say about it.

I worship Deity - the ONE, the ALL - and I worship the Goddess and God as two aspects of that One.

"If you take [a copy of] the Christian Bible and put it out in the wind and the rain, soon the paper on which the words are printed will disintegrate and the words will be gone. Our bible IS the wind and the rain." Herbalist Carol McGrath as told to her by a Native-American woman.

There is no basic reason to worship a diety other than to insure your entrance into a certain conceptual afterlife. Many people's of this world worship a diety as a mental crutch when things in life turn topsyturvy, it is a type of self affirmation to believe in something more powerful than ones own self, totally unaware of the fact, that they themselves had the power and the resilience to pull through the turmoils of life on their own.

Many people use a diety to justify their own means, for instance God's will, has been the reasoning for more deaths and wars than for anyother reason combined since the dawn of man. God, is the excuse to justify the ends of human means, even if it means humanity's own destruction. I cite Revelations as an example, many religous sects believe it is there destiny to assist their diety in unfolding the wrath described in this text. War, death, genocide, holocaust, ethnic cleansing, plague, famine, civil unrest, and even nuclear holocaust, are acceptable to them because they believe these "teachings", will bring forth an epoch, upon the Earth, they refer to as the Rapture.

Religion has also been used by kings and queens since the dawn of antiquated history and has been handed down since even unto many of todays leaders as a method of control over the masses of weak minded peoples. One person I believe said it best, which justify's this statement, "Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet." - Napoleon Bonaparte.

So why should we worship God? That's a good Q.
People will cite that it is religion that benefited man and brought them together to work in harmony and to flourish upon the face of Earth. But if you look at the nature of man, and the very similar nature of that of the Animal kingdom, these so called amazing abilities are instilled in us by our parents when we are born, it is not until we are old enough to understand language, are the values of a diety instilled in us by whatever influence. Every adult human knows this fact and how to manipulate it, "the younger you are... the more easily impressionable you are."

This is justified by the fact that so many humans take on the role of their parents or ancestoral religous cycles... they learn it, they acquire it, and many have no alternative than to accept it. The constructs of free will, logical reasoning, critical thinking, do not coincide with a religous diety's obediant doctrine, obediance to a given diety is very often, put before ones obediance to oneself, hence your suffering.

Man has a natural resilience, mankind has had this natural resilence before they learned to use fire, or the first bone and stone tools, which led to the discovery of the wheel and so on, this intellect was aquired through thousands of years of resilience, not divine intervention as others would have you to believe.

It is the things we do not understand, that require the concept of a diety or a religion, as mankinds resilience falters beyond the ultimate unknown, that which we have no concept of. No mortal born unto mankind, past, present, or future will be able to ever tell the tale of what is beyond the threshold of death, the laws of the universe will not permit it. These diety's that many of you worship are concepts and ideals of mans "ultimate image", nothing more, they are mans resilient conceptual archytypes used to justify your very brief existance here on Earth.

"A man's "ethical behavior" should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." - Albert Einstein

Conceptual images of humanbeings as diety.

If god - if such a being does exist, and did as he claims to have - created the universe, why does he want to be worshipped? Is god an egomaniac?

I cant provide scriptural support but I reckon its one God (or higher power, whatever you like to call it,) with lots of different names, depending on culture/ belief, etc., so people are in effect worshipping the same Deity

When God doesn’t require the worship of anybody, why should we worship Him? He is needless and all are dependent on Him. If God needs our worship, then it is not agreeable to His divinity and Godhood is it not?

Now its answer can be given in two ways: one in brief and the other in detail.

The brief answer is that when the purpose of this worship is to fulfill the needs of Allah and by obeying Him we give some benefit to Him, then the question arises that Allah is unlimited and away from all defects and needs; then what is the need for our worship, but the purpose of worshipping Him would be to elevate ourselves, then the worship would be a means to elevate ourselves and for goodness and favor and guidance from God to make us reach perfection through worship.
