  • * Emotions that were invested that have to stop and will never be returned * The reality that your future is not going to be the one you planned out in your mind. What was an assumed comfortable future is gone. * The fear of having to go through the dating process again with the very real possibility that it may take years or never to find someone else. * The ego crushing, denial creating fact that someone didn't want to stay with you no matter what I'm sure there are more but if you are emotionally invested at any level a break up is going to hurt. Depending upon the depth of that investment that hurt could last a day or a year. It eventually recedes and you move on. That is the nature of a breakup. It hurts. You get depressed and/or cry and kill a bunch of chocolate bars and then you reconnect with the world and remember how to laugh. You stop spinning your wheels and begin forward motion again. And somewhere in that future might be the words, "Thank goodness that happened."
