I Just got my first full body massage, whoa was it amazing! How does one go about becoming a massage therapist? How intense is the schooling?

Most vocational schools and community colleges offer degrees in massage. I believe that the course is less than a year. But are you refering to masage or Reiki. I ask b/c of the category you chose. Reiki classes are only offered by private Reiki Masters.

you need to go to a school that offers certification. When I looked into it, the schooling was something like 6 or 9 months

It doesn't take that long to become a certrified massage therapist! And your friends will love you because prior to getting your license you have to log a certain amount of hours doing massages!!!

You need to be licensed in New York.It is a two year course I believe here.They are trained correctly.

It depends on the state you are in as some require many more hours of schooling, I'd say from 500-1500 hours, plus some states also require you to be Nationally Certified as well as the schooling. How fast it takes depends on the intensity of the classes. It could be 1-3 years. It also depends on what kind of modality you choose as some take longer, and it helps to be proficient in many modalities to appeal to many clients. My husband is a massage therapist and used to teach it, too, in California.
