means fall is here and time to get the fruit and veggies ready for canning
Put up some preserves in jars...you know, peach preserves, apricot preserves, whatever. My mom and her friends used to do that each summer at our house when we lived in Michigan. They'd buy lugs of fruit at the height of the season, get together and wash, pit, chop and cook the preserves..then put them "up" in some glass jars just for the purpose of canning. They also put up pickles (my favorite were the cauliflower pickles) and some veggies. In California you can buy fresh veggies year round but in other parts of the country you can't..at least not the good stuff. So we relied on the canned/preserved foods during winter! :)
Never heard this one..but sounds to me like you got your tail kicked.
Cooked your goose??
Jarring the preserve is same as bottling the wine.
To preserve the taste and flavor for ever.
