    From what I've heard about the place it's not exactly a "police state", ( like the former East Germany for example), but it's hardly a liberal democracy either.

    Although the laws are strict and they do stamp your passport with "Drug offenses are punishable by death (or something like that)" I think maybe Japan might be closer to one.

    I do not think so. One thing I do know for sure. I feel very safe every time I visit that beautiful and clean island state.
