Why do curlers have to use the house stones? Why can't they purchase and use their own?

    Each stone weighs about 40 lbs. Imagine carrying eight.

    Curling stones are very expensive, and heavy... it would be dificult for curlers to transport them. also now stones are matched with their counterpart on the sheet. so the skips stones would match for each team. in theory
