  • I've never tried to trace back, but both my parents come from clans which had their origins between the 11th to 13th century, so presumably, though i don't know when "ancient" actually begins and ends.
  • I've tried but it's very hard to find records that date back that far. I couldn't get any further than the 1700's. The earliest, recognised, recorded history in Briton, of the type we're familiar with, is Ceaser's diary & ancient Briton tends to mean pre-Roman.
  • Since you ask, strange1,...I can trace mine back to the eleventh century, Scotland. Is that far enough? The name and the place is verifiable. The history is pretty amazing, really. And I belong to a "cousins" group that does research into genealogy. We also use DNA to verify relationships. We have made connections with people in Scotland and Ireland. I will not expound on the famous people I am related to,..but leave it to say, I could be in line for the throne of Scotland..(lol!)
