  • It was Dr Reeve Smythington-Smythe from the village of Much Muckle who, in 1783,was asked by His Majesty King George III to come up with a phrase to be stamped on the new coinage about to be released following the joining of Scotland, England and Wales to form Great Britain. The King asked him to "phrase the coin", a task that the good doctor took to with great fervour. After several attempts, such as "witch free in 10 years", "Help the environment, eat yourself" and "Smile, it confuses people" he settled for the now legendary phrase "Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, Punk!" His Majesty King George III was most pleased and the coin has gone on to become one of the worlds most sought after by coing collectors. On being interviewed by a reporter from Mudhut Lifestyle, Dr Smythington-Smythe was quoted as saying that "being asked by the King for help was a great honour but to coin a phrase for him was the greatest moment in my life." This greatest acheivement was soon superceded by the discovery tortoises hibernated and did not all die at 6 months old.
