    I had had trouble burning CD's; even after I had Nero installed. Bought a new computer, someone gave me some cd-rw disks and I Finally was able to downloadm back-up and burn! I bought a large package of DVDR at BestBuy with a very old gift cerificate...After reading this and the other info. posted on the internet I can now see the difference and understand how some of these various disks do what they are designed to do... hopefully I'll retain this info and not have to go and make the same mistake twice!

    Well, first MAJOR difference... one is a CD and one is a DVD. RW means you can write data to the disk and erase it (normal CD-Rs and DVD-Rs can only be written once) so you can use them over again.

    DVD=r isn't a format but recordable/rewritable DVDs store abour 4800mb compared to the 650-700mb of CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

    CD-R/DVD-R/DVD+R Can all be written on only once. Once the data in on there it can't be overwritten or deleted (though I believe more can be added besides). CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM can all be used multiple times and erased between uses. For the DVD formats the number of time they can be used goes in that order with DVD-RAM being the best.

    Not all rewriter drives can use all disks. CD-RW drives can't use DVDs but DVD rewriters should be able to write CD-Rs and CD-RWs. DVD-RAM is only usable on some DVD rewriters and some older ones may only read one of the +/- formats.
