In the application that I am familiar with, a "slow jam' is a blues based, moderate-to-slow-tempo series of chord progressions(again, 'blues-based') that can be used in a live format for improvasation (like when, say for example.....Neil Young walks out on stage to join Pearl Jam live, and they don't have anything particular worked up....) and it is the also ultimate way for a guitarist to test a live application of all those scales they've been working on......because the tempo is slow, and the chords are usually pretty predictable and repetitive, it makes for a great launching pad for practise of guitar (or any other sloling melodic instrument) solos. A good example of the 'music bed' for a 'slow jam" might be "you shook me' from the first led zeppelin album, but without the vocals. I hope this helps
