Twice in the last week my computer crashed. I get a blue screen that says something about a memory dump. The last time, it reset the clock to 01/01/2000. Now what's suddenly causing this and is there a fix?

the message on the blue screen is pertinent to resolving the problem. Sometimes there is an actual message - which it would be useful to make a note of so that others can know where the problem lies - you also get a load of figures. The first set is useful to look up on the web, or offer on a forum, along with any message.

You might get something like 0x00000008E.All you need to write down to pass on to a knowledgeable someone, is 0x08E. Don't worry about all the intervening zeroes.

Usually, if your clock has been reset, that indicates that the battery inside which runs the CMOS needs replacing. A simple task. You might also get complaints about CRC errors in the POST. Your computer will continue to boot and operate, but it will forget the information held in the BIOS, which includes date and time, until that battery is replaced.
