Because removing people with so little common sense would greatly improve the gene pool?

Joseph Smith was a fraud and Eisegete

God should have mentioned this word of wisdom thing to Joseph Smith. Yeah know he loved his cigars and spirits, both alcholoholic and imaginary.

I suspect water quality wasn't so much of an issue, and they knew how to deal with such things back then. There was no such thing as excessive salt in that culture. WE overuse the stuff like no one ever did before. Likewise, obesity was uncommon in a society without cars, where you had to actually work for a living.

    Serious answer:
God has provided us with a disclaimer of sorts:
"For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward." D&C 58:26
    -
We are required to use common sense where God has given no commandment.
    ----
    ----
Jovial answer (I really am banking on God having a sense of humor or else I'm in big trouble):
    -
God has spoken favorably in regards to salt and fatness:
"Salt is good... Have salt in yourselves" Matthew 9:50
    .
" hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness." Isaiah 55:2
We are also warned against waisting our time exercising:
"For bodily exercise profiteth little" 1 Timothy 4:8
    -
God has also taken a stance of nuetrality on hand washing (as well as doing the dishes):
Q:"Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?..."
A:"...laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do" Mark 7:5,8
    -
As far as I can tell He has been completely silent on the issue of boiling questionable water, but you better believe it I'm keeping my eyes peeled now.
