Not only is it possible: it's inevitable.

We're all figments of our own imagination, in the sense that it's the mind which cooks up the notion of "myself" as some distinct entity separate from the whole of our experience.

There is no "self" without this capacity of the mind to discriminate between "me vs. other", and this discrimination is actually quite arbitrary -- i.e. it's imaginative.

I don't mean there's no body, or no thoughts, or no feelings, or memories -- of course all of that stuff exists. But there's no absolute ME which is the "owner" of all that stuff. That notion is purely abstract, and the reason we believe it (and feel as if we're "somebody") is because we don't observe our experience closely enough to discover the truth.

There's great irony in the fact that most of our efforts to "protect ourselves" and "be ourselves" are centered around a "self" which is a figment of our own imagination.

When I think about people with multiple personality disorders it sure seems possible for your personal identity, or identities to be figments of your own imagination. But as far as whether or not your basic existence in reality as perceived by everyone and everything else in reality is imaginary...then no.

An imaginary person is not real, therefore an imaginary person can not imagine. Likewise if I'm real to begin with, which would mean I can imagine, then I've already established myself as real and not imaginary so I can not be hallucinating myself or making myself up.

Of course this is all based on playing by the rules of reality as they are presented to most of us.....assuming we are not perceiving reality wrongly or being tricked. But if ya wanna bring alternate realities into it, or parallel universes, or a Matrix style existence....well then there are endless scenarios in which it's possible simply because we don't know for sure and it can't be disproven.

I don't belive so. While sometimes I feel that it would be nice...i'm fairly certain that we are all living in the here and now, as depressing as that may be...

I feel like that quite a lot of the time. I don't know if it is possible though, unless this is currently a dream, and if it is then it REALLY sucks as most of my dreams are more interesting than this

Gee I really hope so, because if it is not possible then .... what? I disappear???? I vanish, stealing softly away in the night?

Phew...just as well I have a great imagination now if only I could figure out how come I am so twisted that I imagine myself like I am, why am I not incredibly super beautiful and really disgustingly rich and sought after by millions of men?
I can't make up my mind - (but that's another story!), am I a psychs nightmare or dream?

There is one person I admired that really explains it well.

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves." - Bill Hicks

No because if you were a figment of imagination, then you wouldn't be real so you couldn't have an imagination and you wouldn't be alive.
