What is your favorite tuba excerpt and why?

I like the tuba in 'The Great Escape' because it sounds jolly, but does not include the raspiness and the idiocity that is often associated with the tuba. I think that descriptions of the tuba's sound as 'fart noises' is far from helpful.

I'm 58 years old and heard "Peter and the Wolf" as a child, and the tuba theme in that piece has stuck with me all these years! When I was learning the tuba in high school band, my director challenged me to learn the clarinet polka on the tuba. I thought that he was joking, so I paid no attention to him. Now I realize that if I would have listened to him, I could have been a big musical showman!

I am 14 years old, played the tuba for quite a while now, and my favorite by far is "ride of the valkyries". It is truly amazing! Love it.
