So the Global warming frenzy is, indeed, threatening our civilization. Not because global warming is real; it is not. But because of the all the horrible side effects of the global warming scam.

I love this civilization. I want to do my part to protect it.

If Al Gore and his global warming scare dictates the future policy of our governments, the current economic downturn could indeed become a recession, drift into a depression and our modern civilization could fall into an abyss. And it would largely be a direct result of the global warming frenzy.

My mission, in what is left of a long and exciting lifetime, is to stamp out this Global

Warming silliness and let all of us get on with enjoying our lives and loving our planet,

    Earth.

We cannot prevent sea level rise, or reverse it. We can stop our carbon emissions, but that will only slow it down. The biggest enemy is economic growth - by the time the quest for continued economic growth has worked its way out of the mind of humanity, so much carbon will have been emitted that it will be impossible to stop the sea level rises. The only hope is a year by year reduction in economic growth back down to sustainable levels - failure to do so will mean the economic era will end with the worlds financial cities (Shanghai, New York, London - to name a few) under many metres of water and millions displaced.
Furthermore the rising of the sea will inundate so much plant and vegetable matter that many tonnes of methane will be emitted through anearobic decomposition, accelerating the global warming process. It is said that if nothing is done - when the sea level balances out, it could be as much as 84 metres higher than today.

We can't! The only way to reverse it would be to cool the atmosphere OR ship liquid water into deep space.

    Its too late.

If the carbon (as one part of the greenhouse gas equation) is the real underlying cause, we have already passed the point of no return. Further Carbon remains at least 100 years, meaning if we suddenly all stopped breathing, burning, driving, blah we still have to content with the effects for the next 100 years.

There is more to the equation, such as the offset of global dimming caused by the particulate matter we throw up, and the methane advanced due to warmer shallow seas and melting tundras, or the mere fact that heat throws up more water vapor. Water Vapor is the biggest green house gas and is vastly changed in ratio with very minor changes in temperature.

Melting snow and ice increased the absorption rate of heat, with the loss of glacier mass around the globe the earth is absorbing more heat. That heat in turn melts more ice, its a self feeding process on its own.

There are several factors in play.

Folk who 'deny global warming' have no real idea of the whole situation. The media is mostly to blame, focusing on the Global Warming via carbon without explaining fully the impacts a minor carbon change has on methane, water vapor, loss of sea and land ice and how those start other dangerous feed back loops.

We have seen small amounts of sea rise during the past century, what we have not seen is a great loss of land based ice. We are not just starting to see that ice melt and will 'shortly' see the result as the oceans begin to rise ast a greater pace.

There is no reverse, the damage is done. We can have a minor impact on how long and how great the over all damage will be, but our only option is to start dismantling coastal cities and start building on higher ground.

Of course we won't, thus far more environmental damage will take place as cities are flooded.

If I accept the first part of the contention than than the prospect for the later is not so good. If one does not agree with the first part the simple answer is to stop dong whatever we are doing if that is what is doing harm, if all agree that harm is being done, which they don't and some never will. +5

There appear to be 2 factors to consider here – the extra liquid water and the higher temperatures. The higher temperatures might be coped with by migration of populations and cultivation of new land where necessary and possible. It could be that heat tolerant mutations will arise (especially if we encourage the widening of the ozone hole to let the gamma rays reach more of the Earth’s breeders).

The water is a bigger problem and may need an extremely adventurous approach. In the short term the problem will only arise at high tide so if some way could be found of eliminating extreme tides it would provide breathing space for developing a technique for moving the water off the planet. Tides on Earth are largely caused by the moon. Two possibilities exist which will both require an enormous investment, but if the fate of 90% of life on Earth (including the human race) is at stake, perhaps the will can be found:

    1. Break the moon up into 3 or 4 parts and space them around the Earth so that the pull of each part counteracts the others, making extreme tides a thing of the past. This would have the option of maintaining any role the Moon plays in maintaining a stable axial tilt for the Earth’s rotation, which is important to retaining reasonable seasons and weather.

    2. Move the Moon so far away from the Earth that it no longer exerts such a powerful tidal effect. This option despite requiring a far greater energy input over a longer time at least retains the prospect of having the Moon back again one day. A variation of this is to move the Moon into an independent orbit around the Sun. The problem of replacing any effect the moon in its present orbit has on the stability of Earth’s axial tilt would have to be assessed and addressed.

Stopping extreme tides is only a stop gap measure while the real solution is invented, developed and put into operation. The excess water must be put into space, preferably in orbit around the Earth in case it is ever needed again. There is a possibility that the space ice could be used as a huge and adjustable sunscreen to regulate the amount of heat reaching the Earth, either temporarily or permanently, depending how the sun’s radiation changes. It could also be incorporated into an anti-collision shield against cosmic debris.
