  • They sicken me because lonely old ladies send their life savings to them. I've seen it happen.
  • They give "real" Christians a bad name. I think that probably ALL of the "miraculous healings" and crap like that are fake. But if you send a check for $75 to $100 dollars,...they will save your soul. - - - - - - CRAP
  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Fake! It's all fake! Check this clip out: http://www.dorks.com/html/Screeching-Priest-Fails-his-Healing.html
  • Just appearing on TV and soliciting money undermines ANYONE'S credibility. However, many of them are as sincere as the preachers you find in any church. They just happen to operate a TV production as a parallel ministry. I have seen a few flakes, but they are no more numerous than in any organization and seldom acquire a large following. Most people are selective in what they watch. Therefore, only the best survive.
  • Not ALL but some.
  • They scare me. They're preaching ignorance and anyone with a T.V. can hear it...
  • The vast majority of them are heretics. In the old days we would have burned them at the stake.
  • Well, they can be annoying AND interesting at the same time (what an accomplishment!)
  • They're in it for the money.
  • Wasn't that a gag line in the movie Repo Man? His folks had given all their money to the TV evangelist? Sorry, more inane trivia courtesy of me. I think they are hilarious. I can't stop laughing when I see them strut (ughhhhhhhh). I recall being in a godforsaken (no pun intended) motel in West Virginia once and watching the local TVE, I wish I had a VCR with me because it was a side splitter. Great entertainment and hold onto your cash folks. Love this question.
  • They scare me. Nuff said.
  • I think they are fine for those who want to watch them. I also think many of them are overly dramatic and full of their own "powers." Ans I also think some of them are very money hungry people, beyond what it takes to run their ministry. Personally the only one I ever really respected was Billy Graham.
  • I have no interest whatsoever in Tub thumping money grabbing evangelists
  • As a Christian, they make me sick. They give real Christians a horrible name. I'm sure there may be one or two genuine ones, but come on. Televangelists are the pro-wrestlers of religion.
  • They are money loving showmen disguised as evangelists. Most of them are as fake as three dollar bill.
  • Thieves
  • I may be in the minority here. I love Joyce Meyer. I think she is funny. I find her thought provoking and inspirational. I love Zola Levit, a Christian Jew. He frequently goes to the Holy Land and has interesting footage. I personally know Hilton Sutton and he is an outstanding man. And of course, who doesn't know Billy Graham. He is one of the original TV evangelists. I watched him as a child. On the other hand, I also know Oral and Richard Roberts. They are Tulsa natives. Oral has had some pretty screwy moments. Richard Roberts and his wife Lindsay are very personable. Their children attended the same school my children attend. I think it depends on what you believe, and what you are looking for. I am not a fan of Benny Hinn. I think he is in it for the money. I find him ingenuine. And there are many others I find fake. But there are those I enjoy.
  • They don't have any personal interest in you. that's why their on T.V.
  • I spent two years as a missionary for my church. At about the time I started this service, Jimmy Swaggart was exposed as an adulterer, Jim Bakker was sent to prison for over selling time shares at a religious resort he was trying to build, and Oral Robert was trying to shake down his followers by saying that God was going to "call him home" if they didn't send him enough money for a project on which he was working. (They didn't send in the required amount of money, but Oral is still with us.) Needless to say, I have a very low opinion of such people. There really do come across to me as being more interested in the glories of the world than they are with glorifying God and saving souls. *************** "Mirage RF: Every profession has its exploiters. The actions of a few did not diminish your activities as a missionary, or the activities of the honest TV evangelists. Fame, glory and wealth are the great corrupters. More power to those who retain their morality. TV preachers make an easy target for stereotyping, so I leave a little room for those with integrity....points..." As I commented on another answer. I do respect Billy Gram. I have not heard anything about him to make think that he is less than sincere about his beliefs and he has done a number of thing to prevent the possibility his being connected to scandals. So, while I may not agree with everything that he teaches, I do respect him. I am sure that there are others that are sincere about their beliefs as well, but the conduct of the showier televangelists tends to make distrustful of them on the whole.
  • I lost most respect the morning, (around 4 a.m.), that I saw a televangelist tell a woman on the phone, (she said she had $100 to her name, and she was fixing to lose everything), to send him a check for $99 and her problems would be solved. Someone at the end of the rope, and he asks for what she has left, (except for that $1, which I didn't understand). I would have had more respect if he had said, "I have millions of dollars, given to me by people who want me to use it to help other people like you, so stay on the line, so we can get some info so we can help you". I know there HAS to be a few good t.v. preachers, (doesn't there?). But, for the most part, it's all a show, and Lord have mercy on the fakes!
  • They pretty much suck.
  • *Flick*
  • Excellent and always dependable source of early morning comedy.
  • .deleted error....RF
  • we australians have always groaned at them, but lately, there have been a better group come out, people who are much more bible based than the self-serving egotists of the past. the best one, however, has always been Billy Graham. That man has led a totally accountable life.
  • They veer between terrifying and hilarious. I quite like the hilarious ones for a bit of harmless entertainment, but the terrifying ones... 'Send us all your money. With just $10 a month we can forcibly convert two heathens' Aaaaaaaah!
  • I have one renting the condo next to me. He's a self ordained hypocrite trained by a filthy rich older recruiter. His wife once mentioned that her dead father was a satanist. They zero in on innocent victims take what they can get then slander these unwary poor idiots when they catch on to what pure evil they really are. They're the worst cons on the planet. I hate them!!!!!
  • There are alot of scam artists on tv... It starts with the bad prachers on TBN & goes all the way around to Sky angel.... There are men good, Godly men & Women who care about others who deserve TV & Radio airtime to lead others to Christ instead of some bonehead looking to satisfy thier own sinnful desires...
  • This question has to have a multi-dimensional answer. Otherwise you're sterotyping. A lot of them are in it for the wrong reasons. However, if you do accidentally send your money to the wrong ones, you will still be blessed because you gave with the right intent. Some are the real thing. It's no different from anything else. Some doctors are quacks, some men/women will cheat. It's not an all or nothing answer.
  • Shit....If I can put on a white suit and throw my sisters and brothers around saying that I can heal them; and people send me money for it...I am in the WRONG business.....I could have my bills paid off and have that nice Lamborgini Gallado I always wanted...;)
  • I believe that there are some geniune evangelists who utilize television as a way to reach a greater audience with the message of salvation through Christ. There may certainly be some who intend to satisfy their own financial or other desires by it but we can't group all into the same category. I really love to hear Charles Stanley for example. I think his intent is clearly to share Biblical principles.
  • Many of TV Envangelics are well meaning... Others are charletians...
  • Some are good and sincere and are worthy of their ministry. Some are crooked and smarmy and should and will go to hell for causing people to stray from the truth just for power and money. There is even a special place in hell for these people.
  • I think most of them should be "taken out back" and whipped with rusty barbed wire. Most of them are nothing more than thieves who use people's belief in God to take what they have. There are a few who are on the up and up(Billy Graham, to name one)....but when they start asking for "seeds of faith" (money) in return for "miracles"...charlatans!
  • My opinion of them is low enough to walk under a snake without brushing its hat off!
  • Its a business, people will pay to know what they think.
  • i think they make a lot of money from their advertisers. it's sick.
  • We, in Australia, don't see many of the ones the US has, and those Americans we see are only on the Christian channel on cable. We have some local guys, but they are not the hype kings you see in America. Most are pretty good and are just filmed preaching in their home churches, and broadcast on the Christian channel once again. There are also some awesome British preachers, and even one from Singapore who is great.
  • The American crowd have managed to destroy the reputation of preachers and Christians worldwide.
  • How much is this opinion going to cost me?
  • They are con artists. Jesus does not like them either: Matthew 6:1 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
  • I use to watch Joyce Meyers because she had a sence of humor but I don't watch her or anyone else anymore.
  • Televangelists are wolves, but they aren't the only ones. I have a problem with anyone who makes any profit from teaching of God. The Old Testament laid out a very clear payment structure of 10% that should go to the priestly class - the Levites. This was part of the Mosaic law, and as such, is not in effect anymore. It's common, and quite dishonest, for preachers/pastors, in modern times, to cite it though. The New Testament, in books such as Timothy, lay out quite clearly the structure of the church, so to speak. No payment is ever mentioned. As a Jehovah's Witness, it's much different. No one in our organization makes money, at any level, right up to the top - all work is in service. Go to a Kingdom Hall and you'll see that the people leading the meetings all have day jobs. A basket is never passed either.
  • They should be arrested. They are all about theatrics and put themselves above God. I saw a commercial where they were celebrating a certain televangelist as being the "best" one of them. He had a southern accent BTW. Everyone clapped after every sentence out of his mouth. It must have been fake. If he was a real Christian, he would not let them praise him for being so "great" but would give all the glory to God. And then there is Jim Baker... Uhhhhh >_< He cons so many people out of their money!!! It is a shame. He makes so much money and it all goes to him! He was arrested once before don't people know that?
  • they are simply in it for the money and fame, generally they are hate mongerers(well like most religions actually) I am not going to name the ones i am most against, but they poison the minds of so many people around the world
  • Worldly!
  • Money grubbers.
  • We can respect a teacher But should suspect a preacher. A teacher will award a grade. A preacher’s way is worse. A teacher sets out to persuade; A preacher to coerce!
  • Most are warped, in my opinion. There are some sincere ones, that do not ask for donations from non-members of their church. Their productions are usually shoddy, but their message is real. I know two, right off the top of my head: Gino Jennings and Grove Avenue Baptist Church. They do not ask for money. Those that ask for money for "healing" or "spiritual gifts" will be judged accordingly, and will hopefully wake up and realize how many souls they are losing...
  • Money grabbers. Opportunists.
  • Best way to become rich fast
  • I think that most of them start out with a real desire to help and spread the word. Unfortunately, for many, the power and the money seems to overwhelm them and they forget why they started doing this in the first place. Not all...but many.
  • No different than Church based religion - all about money, power and control thru fear...hmmm sounds just like the government and the main stream media...
  • Why are my eyes bleeding....
  • Frm my experience it would seem they are multi-billion dollar industries run by charasmatic speakers who want your money. I guess if you are religious there's nothing wrong with watching a religious television show and there should be religious television shows since a large part of the population like them and watch them and are religious. BUT why isn't it just a show, with a preacher on camera saying his thing..most of them I (but not all) that are extremely popular are filmed with the evangelist in front of thousands of people, it's almost like a concert with the satage and lights and music etc. IT's my opinion that if people want to throw their money at something like this then it is their choice but IF there is a god, I would think that people using his teachings and image to get money and dupe people has to be the biggest sin of all. Especially when said evangelist is a pedophile, drug user, etc. as some of them have turned out to be.
  • money grubbing, pessimistic, and unpleasant(person wise)
  • Not a good one. I've seen too many shows where they expose these guys as money-grubbing frauds. I mean come on creflo DOLLAR? is that his real name? That is rather telling isn't it?
  • Not high. I think John Hagee may actually be the Devil. So... yeah. Not high.
  • Unmasked bandits.
  • I am Christian and do not watch any of them. My 2 cents.
  • Its great for shut-ins. There are there to do what God commanded... Preach the Gospel to all nations. Just have to use discernment to whom you listen to.
  • they're all a bunch of scammers and swindlers. beware of false prophets that are leading the flock away from the truth of the bible and the only organization that teaches the truth. jesus and the apostles spoke of them. many unfortunately would follow them instead of what the bible says.
