I think it is a beautiful thing to see a baby at a mother's breast. I find it comforting and it tells me Life does indeed go on no matter what other stupidity we have gotten ourselves into.

it's healthy for the mom and baby most of all (gives them natural protection in the form of antibodies when they still cannot make their own)

it helps the mom and baby bond faster and better

it prevents the mom from getting periods earlier than if she doesn't breastfeed - may aid in preventing cancer of the breast because of the decreased oestrogens in the body

it helps save money from having to buy expensive baby foods, and to top it all, it is nutritious and healthy for the baby, because it is its natural food, what the baby is meant to live on in the first few months after all.

Healthy way to feed the baby as long as the mother eats right and takes care of herself.

I think it is a beautiful way for a mother and baby to bond and the health benefits are amazing. Breast milk contains antibodies and nutrients that can prevent many childhood diseases. Breastfed infants have been shown to develop higher IQ's and have a lower risk of SIDS. It also helps mothers lose baby weight. There are just so many reasons to breast feed and it surprises me that so many mothers don't.
