How does he treat you otherwise? Are you sure it's embarrassment that keeps him from holding your hand in public?
Maybe he's just the kind of guy that doesn't like to hold hands in public. My husband has always been embarrassed to hold hands or participate in other PDAs. Some men are just like that.
However, if he's embarrassed to be romantically associated with a non-black woman, then I don't know whether there's much hope for your relationship. No one in a couple should be made to feel like a lesser partner or someone to be ashamed of.
I would tell them that i am proud to be with them, and that loving them and showing it means to the world to me. If they are still embarressed i would let it go and let them warm up to the idea. Maybe he is just not cool with PDA.
If hand holding is important to you, which apparently it is, then perhaps you should look elsewhere. I'm wondering...is this really about holding hands?
