Yahoo Answers sucks. Too many trolls, stupid teenagers and you'll probably get your whole Yahoo account suspended and there's not getting that thing back after. Stay on here. AB is moderated by actual human beings.

I loved Yahoo Answers because it was the only site of it's kind that I knew of. I was at level 6 when I left it. But it got to be a game of chicken to answer questions because if you gave an answer that someone disapproved of you could lose ALL of your Yahoo accounts (mail, Answers, IM, Games, 360, etc..). They also allowed some terrible cases of trolling. Arizstid was one of those allowed to be harrased by YA. It was shameful. I began looking for an alternative and found AnswerBag and loved it. I think the MOST important factor in my affection for this site is that we are allowed to communicate and form bonds with each other. Yahoo wouldn't allow it. There was no 'chatting' allowed. After awhile I couldn't see the point of being within a group if you weren't allowed to connect with anyone. Also, AB allows us to talk a subject down to an understandable form! Sometimes it takes some discussion and irritation to make a point, or to understand a point.
I am grateful to the guys who founded and maintain this valuable piece of my life. Thanks AB Dudes!

Lol, well I am now a Yahoo refugee and have tonight found them extremely overly sensitive, deleting decent users' answers for violation and allowing the real nasty idiots to run riot.
Today I am livid at having one of my answers deleted - a mere two sentence answer btw - for violation of community guidelines! I'd just got onto Level 3 with 22% best answers (I thank you!! =D )and I was docked 10 points too!!
All I was doing was telling the nasty piece of work asker that the poor girl she was bullying for wanting to be her friend ought to be the one asking us how to get rid of *her*!! And I wasn't the only one either - there were about 7 other answers already when I gave mine and I'd say about 5 or 6 of them were directly telling the asker the same thing I did only in a few more sentences! She was going on about how popular and amazing she was and how this girl was cramping her style etc It was so nasty and I'm surprised Yahoo even allowed her question, the names this little sociopath was calling this poor girl!!

I responded to Yahoo by saying that I wasn't the sort of woman to stand by and encourage relational aggression on the part of that horrid asker and I was not the only one. I reckon the poor little princess went complaining to them about all of us who responded (with the truth...) because I couldn't find the question anywhere after that. She probably has a rich daddy and Yahoo were terrified of being sued.....

I'm not exactly flippin stupid, I'm professionally qualified and I do have social skills unlike the asker who caused the problem!
I don't know what planet they are on but I'm thinking of using my account here more from now on....hating this ridiculously PC society we're living in......
    Thanks for reading xx

    Yarnlady is happy every day

As one of the founding users of Yahoo!Answers, I can assure you that it used to be very much like Answerbag until it got too big for the YAT (Yahoo Answers Team)and customer service to handle, and the decision was made to automate most of the functions. Many of the original team left Yahoo, and the site deteriorated.

Users discovered that cheaters and trolls were rampant and uncontrollable, and their accounts were canceled for apparently no reason. Because of the dissatisfaction, flaming and various online pranks made the site very unreliable. I discovered, for instance, that with the automated report abuse system, both the reported and the reporter had their accounts canceled with no warning.

Y!A never had the ability to comment on the answers, and any communication with other users was very difficult. Answerbag has been a lot better, but that could change with too many users and the "bottom line" mentality (the more users the better, no matter what the quality).

I like the fact that AB doesn't encourage answering in bulk.

On Yahoo Answers, you can give answers such as "yes" and "maybe," and you automatically get two points. That's why when I was there, I answered 1,000 points a day. Really bulky, huh?

The AB system is better,IMHO. Sadly, sometimes, a good answer is unrewarded. I have given some good answers and they remained at zero. One time, I was even downrated for answering a homework question.

I also like the fact that AB doesn't penalize you for posting a question. YA actually removes five points from your score if you post a question. And if someone flags it (and YA approves it), 10 points is deducted from your total!

I haven't originated from YA, but I have been there and asked some questions. I think the actual site is not that great. Answerbag is a community, and YA forbids that! Who in their right mind would forbid a community feel to a website? With my account I asked if they would like to have a community feel to it, and said yes. But, YA prevents it. The thing about Answerbag is the community feeling. That is what kept me here.
    Answerbag is way better!

There was a lot I didn't like about Yahoo. From their incessant 'coffee breaks' through their acceptance of trolls and other 'Yahoos' (in the Jonathan Swift sense) to their final suspending of my account for no good reason - a PERMANENT suspension at that - I just can't be bothered with them anymore.

I totally agree with you! I think Y! answers is way cooler. The community aspect is much better since we could chat and stuff and all the sections are always active. However i think the people on this site are more mellow.

I hate yahoo answer. I got suspended about a year and half ago from yahoo and I'm still suspended. They never told me why. I like Answerbag. When you are suspended here, it's like an suspension. You get suspended for 30 days and your are able to use it again.

In comparision I have to say yahoo answers is better. I mean, I have some questions here where it took a WHOLE WEEK TO GET JUST ONE ANSWER! With yahoo it was almost instantly.
