Question

Help answer this question below.

Our 1998 Ford Explorer seems to be locked in 4 wheel drive. Both sets of 4x4 lights blink at one time and then go off. When you drive it, you can tell that it is in 4 wheel drive. How do we get it unlocked?

This is a GM truck solution but may work for you since you also have an auto transfer case.

    1) get your owners manual
    2) Lookup the instructions for towing
    3) Find the area that describes how to put the transfer case in neutral and follow those steps (be sure the e-brake and normal brakes are applied and the engine is running - doing this disconnects the engine from all wheels!)
    4) When it goes into neutral, wait one minute and then try to put it into 2H.

If this does not work, then you can try to put it into 4 again and drive it to a shop.

Remember to do this on a flat surface and maybe chaulk the wheels (put something in front and behind them) to be sure it doesn't roll away.

    Good Luck,
    Hope this helps
