Question

Help answer this question below.

My battery went dead on my 1980 toyota pickup due to the lights being left on. I went to have the battery charged and they said it was shot. I got a brand new battery and now the charge light is on on the dash. Could the alternator be shot? Voltage Regul?

The charging system light indicates that the charging system is not working. This usually means the alternator isn't charging the battery and therefore you don't have long before it dies. I THINK I heard before that it can also mean the battery isn't putting out sufficient voltage. That one popped up in my head for some reason but I'm not sure if it's true.

You will have to get a charging system test to see if that is working properly. If not, it could be any number of things. Hard to tell on a website.
    Sorry.

Advice: Until you find the problem, carry a spare battery or a boosting kit/boost cables in case of the unforseen...

    Hope this helps,
    Good Luck
