Question

Help answer this question below.

I have two parrots and want to get a couple of rescue dogs. I want at all costs to avoid injury to my birds and suspect that some breeds of dog may be less reliable and react badly to a bird flying round the room. Your comments would be appreciated.

Take care my dear that the animal or human's salive may kill your birds, as if your dogs lick up your bird by its tongue this may cause your birds go ill and with continous this will kill them, i have an african grey parrot, i care about it more than my own self, and i am training him to give me kisses from mouth, and i like to kiss him always, but i used to do that from the upper point of his beak, whereby i can avoid my saliva to reach his cutie month, and the reason that why is the mamal's saliva in general is harmful for birds is that birds's mounths are much cleaner than ours, as our mouths either humans or animals contains kinds of Bacteria inside that we can bear it, and this bacteria isn't harmful for us, but it being transfered to a poor bird, this may cause hard danger for it, so please take care and hope that God always keep your birds safe, wish that i tried to give a useful information.

Most dogs are hunters at heart......Here in Wisconsin, at the Wisconsin Humane Society, they are very clear about what other animals a rescued dog would get along with. If adopting a puppy, look for a non-hunting breed/mix. Then make sure to socialize your "family" well. Good luck.

It's hard to tell if a dog will get along with birds. We've had Newfoundlands and they have always gotten along with all sorts of birds, from ducklings and Geese, doves to macaws. They learned to give the parrots a WIDE berth lol!!!

We had one German shorthair pointer that should have reacted to birds but she was more into fur critters like rabbits. Birds didn't interest her at all. But I would be wary of any hunting breeds, whether pointer types or retrieving breeds.
