My 2004 Jeep runs at the right temperature on the open road, but if I get in stop and go traffic or idle the engine temperature soars. Why?

You're reading 2003 Subaru Legacy 2.5L (H4). It idles high at 1500 rpm when I start it, but as soon as I shift out of park it drops down to about 700 or so. Idle air control valve...?

Thanks! I was figuring it probably was the cold start. It seems to have happened more in this recent cold snap. I'm just happy it doesn't idle at 3k like my old Camry. :-)

You oughta hear my car start the last coupld of weeks. A few seconds of loud screeching followed by a couple of minutes of Huey-like "thwupping" before the oil thaws.

'94 Corsica. Great car once it warms up, but those first few minutes are rough.

My brother drove a 94 Corsica into the ground. He adored it. They can be pretty durable.
