  • I'm allergic to pineapple... only the pulp and not the juice. It causes the skin inside my mouth on my cheeks and gums to peel. First my tongue starts to hurt and swells, then my cheeks swell and feel tight... then the peeling happens. It's not too painful, mostly annoying. I'm not allergic to any other citrus fruits that I know of and this allergy only developed when I was about 17 years old.

  • I am allergic to peas. If I eat one, I am uncontrollably sick. One other weird allegy I have is flagging duplicate questions http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/130342
  • Bee Stings, Penicillin, Sulfa Drugs, Pedialyte ( weird, I know.) Anyhow, I'm a paramedic, so I work with a lot of allergic reactions. I wonder if the above posts about the peas are actually an " allergic reaction ", because often times people mistake side effects, or undesirable effects from food as an allergy. What makes an allergy an allergy is more of like, irritation of the skin, swelling of the tongue, lips, throat, difficulty breathing, excessive swelling of an area of like an insect bite, constricting of blood vessels. things of that nature. You also must be sensitized to the allergen, rare cases are that you come into contact once with one and get that allergic reaction.. the foriegn substance must be introduced first so your body can determine whether or not it is allergic, and then when it is re exposed to that same substance, it will have an allergic reaction. So, I wonder if by "sick", they mean any of that, becuase I couldnt imagine a Pea causing any of the above symptoms. What exactly do they do to you?? ( curious.) SCIENTIFIC/BOOK DEFINITION: Histamine ( **substance your allergic to** ): This mediator acts on histamine 1 (H1) and histamine 2 (H2) receptors to cause contraction of smooth muscles of the airway and GI tract, increased vasopermeability and vasodilation, nasal mucus production, airway mucus production, pruritus, cutaneous vasodilation, and gastric acid secretion. THE FOLLOWING IS NOT INTENDED AS A CURE FOR AN ALLERGIC REACTION!!! Below, I will tell you how to go ahead with 2 of the 3 medications we will give you for it, so you can start feeling better, sooner, cuz hey, your gonna get it from us anyway, and why not feel better sooner than later right? Either way, get to a hospital even after taking all of the below. Anyhow, the best advice I can give all of you with allergies, is when as soon as you start to have a reaction, I treat my patients how you can treat yourselves at home. If an allergic reaction gets bad enough to the point where your airway swells shut, you cant breathe very well, your blood pressure drops (this is very dangerous folks), it is considered then an " anaphylactic reaction," which is very common...you do not want to get to this point. It is very important that reactions of any kind are diagnosed and treated, but as general rules of thumb.. Keep on hand Benadryl ( Diphenhydramine) and immediately go ahead and take 50mg. ( the dose i give to my patients..this is known as an antihistamine, which during your reaction, histamines try and attach to H1, and H2 receptors, so instead, antihistamine readily bonds to these receptor sites, and the histamine bounces off them becuase theyre already filled up with the antihistamine. if the histamine was to make contact with these receptors, you get your allergic reaction ), along with Pepcid (famotidine). Yes, the stomach medicine. They will give that to you as soon as you get to the hospital anyway,..It is used in this situation as an H2 blocker...You have H2 receptors in your stomach, which readily grab onto histamine. When those h2 receptors grab onto histamine, they produce pretty significant amounts of acid, which can cause heartburn, peptic ulcers..etc, histamine also makes things generally like, freak out and constrict, so in your tummy, this means when it all constricts, besides acid secretion, your gonna get abdominal cramps, diarhea, nausea, etc. The Gastro Intestinal tract is nothing to mess with,,. just, uncomfortableness, and probably damage..so technically speaking, the pepcid is also used to relax your tumms., kind of like the next drug, epi, would be used to relax your airway. and of course, if you already know you have an allergy, your 0.3mg of epinephrine (epipen) should be on hand at all times, this will save both you and me a lot of trouble.. and if you dont know what epi is, dont worry about it, you need to be in the hospital anyway, and youll get it on the way if you take ambulance, or by the doctor in the emergancy room.also, if you just hate the thought of injecting yourself, anyone working ambulance or hospital can give you your epipen, as long as you have the original box it came in. and if not, hell, we have epi with us all the time anyway. Also, another good rule of thumb is meat tenderizer on any kind of insect sting/bite. It draws the poison out.
  • I'm allergic to avacodos, but I eat them anyways. They make my mouth itch and if I eat too many my throat starts to close off. But they're so good!! Also, I once had an allergic reation to a medication that had the side effect of lowering my blood pressure - it pooled in my ankles and caused the most itchy rash and red bumps.

I get lesions below my waist that look like mosquito bites and the worst kind of itching you can imagine all over my body. I have to take Benadryl ASAP. That's why I always carry that medication with me, also because I am allergic to other things I haven't identified yet, so an allergic reaction may take place at any moment.

  • I'm allergic to raw carrots, and only raw, I'm perfectly fine with cooked carrots but I can't even peel carrots because my hand will get red and itchy and eating them makes my mouth and lips itch. I'm allergic to cantaloupes, eating a little bit make me extremely nauseous for about an hour or so, I'm allergic to apple peels, and I'm allergic to Pecans in if I eat to many... say 5 spoonfuls of Butter Pecan ice cream my tongue starts to feel raw. As a kid I used to be allergic to Orange juice but my parents said I eventually grew out of it. (So, they just kept trying, WTF?!)
