  • As far as I know, nothing has really changed when it comes to batteries. Just take off the lugs, pull the battery, put in the new one, bolt it down somehow so it doesn't shift around, and re-attach the lugs. Just make sure if you take the positive lead off first that it doesn't touch the frame of the car, because it's grounded to the negative pole on the battery.
  • Sigma6 is correct, but just to be on the SAFE side, you should remove the negative cable FIRST, THEN positive cable. When you install the new battery, attach the POSITIVE cable first, then attach the NEGATIVE cable. As an added note, avoid the temptation to overtighten lead connections. They will stretch until they can no longer tighten around the leads and thus fail completely.
  • When changing your battery make sure the existing terminal (the connectors at the end of the wire) should be cleaned of any build up or corrosion. Any stiff brissle brush will work. Always were safty goggles when working with batteries they can explode acid everywhere. Never set a batterie on the ground (concrete).
  • I am in agreement with the last answer, use the proper tools and, replace any hardward which shows signs of excess corrosion. Using tools which slip on hardware like a twelve point socket, pliers, adjustable wrenches, or excessive length tools can lead to battery mishaps.
