  • Mothers don't always get custody. My SIL does not have custody of her sons.
  • I do not think so . I've seen mothers get custody when they could barely take care of themselves .... I oftened wondered why they even had kids ...
  • It depends on the situation. Sometimes one parent or the other really shouldn't have custody (even if they fight for it and aren't necessarily a "bad" parent) And truly, the kids should be able to have a say in which parent they would prefer to live with.
  • Age does not matter, if you are refering to the children. Ability to provide for the kids, without undo hardship to them, should be the desiding factors. But, that is not always the case. My ex-wife got custody of my girls when they were 5 and 3, although I had a full time job, home, car, people to help with the kids, and medical insurance. She lived with her mother and had no job. I guess collecting $700 a month in support was enough.
  • Some fathers make excellent single parents. Some mothers should never have had children. Custody should go to the parent that the child would run to if they hurt themselves; the primary caregiver. Age of the child isn't a factor in who makes the better parent.
