Categories » Social sciences » Religions » Terminology Is your question: "What terminology describes this sort of belief?"
-
Then you would be a "normal" person for the most part. I also believe in God of my choosing, but resent organized religions.
-
You are whatever you believe yourself to be. I think all of us that are in our right minds believe in some sort of higher power. Not many people believe they are more powerful than nature, or the laws of the universe. There can be many terms to describe what you're asking.
-
The word 'theist' comes to mind.
-
I would look at the definitions for theist and agnostic and see if that helps you. But I think ALOT of people are like you, believe in higher power but not neccessarily God or religion. I don't know that there is an actual word for it. I personally call it being "spiritual". http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/theist http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/agnostic
-
Not that you have to have a label, but you'd probably be considered spiritual or faithful, believing in something but not allied with any particular religion.
-
I do not believe. When you believe, there is too much room for doubt. In my younger days I 'believed'in Santa Clause, the tooth farie and the easter bunny. These beliefs turned out to be false. I know without question or doubt that there is an all mighty caring and forgiving higher power that I call God. Religion is a man made thing seeking an explaination for our existance. I choose to call this mindset spirituality.
-
You'd be in a really fine place. I would hope you're not looking to put yourself into a definition box. I would hope that you simply live and appreciate the gifts along with the challenges that you encounter in the journey on your life's path. Keep your heart clear and may you attain wisdom. Then you have faith and spirituality. This actually how a lot of people feel. I dont necessarily always believe that I have to attend to church to have a relationship with God.

You could check out Deism. From wikipedia: Deism is a religious philosophy and movement that became prominent in England, France, and the United States in the 17th and 18th centuries. Deists typically reject supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and divine revelation prominent in organized religion, along with holy books and revealed religions that assert the existence of such things. Instead, deists hold that religious beliefs must be founded on human reason and observed features of the natural world, and that these sources reveal the existence of one God or supreme being. Human, who thinks about things in their own way
-
You are in a good perspective, in my opinion organised religion is where all the problems start
-
I used to go by spiritual, because I felt similar to what you feel. I now go by agnostic.
-
The correct term is agnostic. Or you could say a theistic agnostic.
-
You don't have to be called anything. You just believe in the way you do.
-
You could be called an agnostic, even though it's a misnomer.
-
I have no problems with that at all. Go for it. :)
-
Then you would be me.
-
Agnostic.
-
You are in good company. I for the logest time was that way, then I found Wicca.
-
Smart.
-
..... Just like every other person who is turning from religion, organised or otherwise, and returning to God. God is what some people call that 'higher power'. You can call it what you like, it's still the same thing that is working in all of us - religious or not. (I’m not religious and I do not attach any divine significance to the word ‘God’. I am aware of a power within and I am working to cultivate it - and not wasting my time trying to name it.)
-
Closer to God than organized religion could ever hope to get you.
-
Keep working on it
