Edward Norton ~ American History X, Fight Club, The Impressionist, The Painted Veil, etc.
Forest Whitaker doesn't command a lot of attention, but has been making a great career.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001845/
William H. Macey.
He's an incredibly unique actor, with a very distinctive air about him that makes him stand out and grab your attention in just about any role.
And I for one don't think he gets half the respect he deserves.
Djimon Hounsou has been doing some great work!
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005023/
Helena Bonham Carter.
She's played so many unique eccentric characters, that I just can't help loving, for years, but I never really knew who she was until recently.
Charlie Chaplin. <3333 Truely wonderful artist.
Geoffrey Rush.
Hugh Laurie from the show house.. I love that show.
Sean Bean.
Gary Oldman is by far the most underrated actor of our times. He is prolific in his work and has taken roles that vary from dramatic character work such as in "Bram Stoker's Dracula", to the drug addict cop in "the Professional", to the banal good-guy police officer in the Batman series. He's a chameleon, and shows a commitment to his craft that is unwaveringc n bereIn addition, and please forgive the repetition, some of his smaller character roles are mind-blowing, , like in "True Romance" and the hiddeously scarred former victim of Hannibal Lecter in "Hannibal". He blends in , hasn't sold out, and truly BECOMES his characters, which is, afterall, what acting is supposed to be abou. It's a shame he's not given bigger roles so he can really strut hi stuff.
willem dafoe
Guy Pearce
A great talent
A true artist
Its no longer about the talent required to create art
Its about the time to create money ...
Benicio Del Toro. He churns out brilliant performances everytime he is in front of the camera. The man is a chameleon and can play any role given to him. I would like to see him get more recognition.
Don Cheadle always gives top-notch performances and I never hear much about him.
Johnny Depp is all hype but for the wrong reasons; I can't think of a more versatile actor. To me he always seems completely in tune with his characters, as diverse as they may be. Examples are "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," "Edward Scissorhands," and "Blow."
Keanu Reeves
Probably some guy called "Terry Beumont" whom I've never even heard of and just made up. But I bet he's out there somewhere being ignored!
John Cusack. Dude is one of the hardest working guys in the business.
Steve Buscemi
Bruce Capbell.
Mark Ruffalo's a really good actor.
So is John Cusack.
And Cara Seymour's good too.
John Candy is a favorite of mine; he is just a happy smiley guy and I enjoy the movies he played in
John C Reilly
Giovanni Ribisi - awesome actor
He is the new Steve Buscemi
They're all way over-rated, IMO
Maggie Gyllenhall. Although maybe she's not old enough to be rated at all much yet, but I think we will see great things from her in years to come. She was fabulous in Secretary and Stranger Than Fiction. She has a quirkiness about her but it doesn't take over so much that you don't get to the characters.
jim carry He is truely amazing
Goran Visjnic
Underrated= not acknowledged for as much talent as they have.
FOR YEARS, I have always thought it was Eddie Murphy. But Dream Girls finally caused everyone to see it.
He is extremely versatile, but comedians have NEVER been given the credit they deserve...
Phillip Seymore Hoffman
George Clooney.... mmmmmmmmm George Clooney
The presidents...all of them. Most politicians
Often say, an indie actor that is regarded highly may just prefer not to do big film stuff and so would appear 'underrated' but really they are very well regarded in the style and genre of film they enjoy.
Some actors have been nominated for the big Oscars more than once and people still don't know about them because their films aren't particularly mainstream- Samantha Morton is one of these.
She is absolutely captivating in my opinion.
I have two: Giovanni Ribisi, Gary Oldman
Gael Garcia Bernal and Guy Pearce.
Bill Nighy. what a guy.
Just about any comedic actor or actress. Comedy is the hardest thing to pull off well and gets the least amout of credit. Carey Grant for instance.
Who Grant - is that how you spell it - the english actor who is just lame. He doesn't even act its the same person all the time
Hunter Parrish!!
James Gardner
Michael Sheen (UK)
William Dafoe is one of the greatest actors of all time by far
Diane Lane
I have always thought Sean Penn was very underrated although in the last couple of years he seems to be winning the war of recognition.
There are alot of choices, but pretty much any great tv actor. Benjamin McKenzie is typically underrated but getting noticed.
Winona Ryder. No wait...don't say no. If you watch her performance in "The Age of Innocence", you will see a layered construct of character of so much complexity. I living breathing real person that is living in the moment and doing it so effortlessly that you don't see the work behind it. I can think of no actress her equal who is so under rated. You can see it in Everything she does. From Beetljuice to Edward Sissorhands. She is like a female Anthony Hopkins. +3
Vin Diesel
Giovani Ribisi definetely the most under rated actor.
Bruno Ganz. He played Damiel in Wings of Desire, probably my favourite film ever. More recently he played Hitler in Downfall. Being German he never seems to get the credit e deserves, but I think he is a brilliant actor.
Lindsay Lohan

He was one I was thinking of also. Although the movie wasn't that great, "Death to Smoochy" featured a hilarious Edward Norton.

Yeah- I agree. He was also in Rounders and Primal Fear. Did a great job in both.

Great actor but can't really agree that he's underrated. He's pretty well known and respected.
