Sales tax. Much easier to enforce properly (and cheaper to enforce). As long as there's a provision allowing unprepared food items to be free of tax you have a much more efficient and reliable system that cannot be twisted by lobbying groups or wealthy to their advantage.
Income taxes get so convoluted that anyone who can afford to hire a CPA will increase their take home more than double the upfront cost of that professional. But nothing can help them at the checkout line.
This New York state citizen says NO to anymore taxes in our state.We pay way to much to Albany already and it is wasted.Sorry to vent Jim but this state is tax happy.
sales tax because it applies to everyone proportionally to how often you spend money. that's why some candidates had ideas of a national sales tax that would replace income tax altogether

I really like that unprepared food is exempt. Same in Massachusetts. That helps a lot in keeping the sales tax from unduly punishing the poor.
