I can't believe he had the balls to tell the truth.
Americans are cowards. Look at the number of chickenhawks we had running the Country during the last administration.
Do what? Cheerlead?
Did you read the speech? He was talking in general to African Americans, whites, Latinos and the rest. He did not address a single ethnic group, he never mentioned the word "bunch", please read the speech so you will understand what he meant.
In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.
“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” Holder said.
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, but “we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race.”
“If we’re going to ever make progress, we’re going to have the guts, we have to have the determination, to be honest with each other. It also means we have to be able to accept criticism where that is justified, Holder said.
In the speech, Holder urged people of all races to use Black History Month as a chance for honest discussion of racial matters, including issues of health care, education and economic disparities.
Race, Holder said, “is an issue we have never been at ease with and, given our nation’s history, this is in some ways understandable... If we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us.
In a country founded by slave owners, race has bedeviled the nation throughout its history".
Well then, give me his address and me and my white middle aged overweight girlfriends will set up a gorgeous picnic in his backyard on Saturday and sleep over til Sunday and discuss with him and any of his black friends our frustration with this "victim" belief in today's world. He invited us to intrude on his weekend..didn't he?
Yes, but he wont.
rest al the Qn iz not much of my intrest... (reazun???... aint amerikan...)... but the furst 3 wurdz... 'can yu believ???'... oh yea... can believ ANYthin whn it comz to 'politikz/politicianz'... itz a long gone fraze to ask 'do yu believ...' whn itz regardin THIS clan of peopl... peace!!!
He is a racist. The worst kind the ones who think anyone else is racist. I'm 27 my generation and the younger generation could give a fuck what u look like or where u came from. My black friends say nigger all the time to describe people black or white. Sometimes it negative but most of the time its just used instead of dude or guy. Its the older generation that has problems with everything.
I agree with Moongrim. This country has gotten so PC and afraid to say anything that might be considered controversial.
You can't say black, you have to say African American. I'm just waiting to see what the next acceptable term will be.
At work, you can't say flip chart because you might offend a philippino.
You can't say bleeding heart liberal who will have no problem spending your money but not theirs, you have to say democrat.
I could go on...
I expected a massive backlash. Nobody likes to hear such harsh words. But sometimes it is necessary to use shock language to get people to open their eyes to an inconvenient truth.
We've made great progress in integrating the workplace but in our social interactions, we are still a de-facto segregated nation.

You're reading Can you believe the comments made by Attorney General Holder yesterday during a speech related to Black History month? He called American a "bunch" of cowards in regard to race relations. Don't you think Pres. O needs to step in quickly and do something?

Respectfully disagree my friend...it is time to excentuate the positives in America with all the negative stuff today. He could have said, "America has come a long ways with the election of a Black President!" "Way to go America!" +5

I respectfully disagree with you.
We still have a long ways to go. Witness those who insist that Obama really isn't a black president, that he's just "half" black.
by Moongrim on February 19th, 2009
Well, that is a given, but that forum and during these times, a positive comment would have sufficed. It was TOTALLY UNEXCEPTABLE...

I am with Moongrim on this. Sometimes it takes confronting truths square on to do something about them.

I am also with Moongrim, Holder has what it takes to speak out the truth.
